I had the pleasure of attending the third annual Koha-US Conference in Monterey, California, August 3-6, 2016. Although the weather didn’t turn out to be what I expected for summer in California, the conference more than made up for that. The event was hosted by the Monterey Public Library and followed the usual format of [...]
This was my third year attending Camp Read-a-Lot and I was not disappointed! The book lists this year were wonderful. There was only one book on the list of 45 books that I didn't like at all! Laurie Purdie Salas was the keynote speaker for the first day with Early Literacy books. She did a [...]
Camp Read A Lot 2016 was wonderful. I enjoyed both the author and the illustrator and enjoyed going outside of my comfort zone to learn and try my hand at poetry and illustrations. It was a fun, practical way to learn about both. I also enjoyed hearing about the process they use to create their books. [...]
This was the second year I attended Camp Read-a-Lot, and I was much more prepared for the conference this time. I started reading the children's books earlier in the spring so I could easily finish by early July. I attended both days of the conference and so read the Early Literacy book list and the [...]
I have attended camp the past several years, and it is never a disappointment! Once again, camp staff were well organized and prepared for a day for fun, learning and information. The new venue was very comfortable and more spacious than previous years. Lauren Stringer was an excellent presenter and her afternoon activities were really [...]
My second Camp Read A Lot did not disappoint! The keynote speakers were engaging and gave us wonderful ideas of ways to incorporate poetry and art into programs and lessons for kids. Our group discussions about the reading lists were also great forums for ideas of how to use each book for different audiences and [...]
I attended two sessions and the Lightning Rounds. In addition, I made a presentation on the differences between public library systems in Minnesota and Wisconsin.Valerie Horton of Minitex gave a particularly useful presentation on innovation titled, "Skating on the Bleeding Edge." She emphasized that library use is in decline and that libraries appear to be [...]
I enjoyed the Plum Creek staff retreat very much! Teri did a nice session on Customer Service. It was a good refresher with some new ideas too in regards to hospitality in the library. In the Creating Displays session Angie and Emilirose shared some fun display ideas as well as some great websites for finding [...]
Thanks to the partnership with SAMMIE, Plum Creek Library System was able to provide to its member library staff a staff retreat in April. We chose “Providing Great Customer Service and Creative Ways to Market Your Library”, for our theme for this event, and judging by the evaluations we received following the retreat, those who [...]
I attended the system-wide staff retreat. I went up the night before and very much enjoyed the very informal evening get together. I wish more people had come. It's so nice to get to know people we talk to or email... The presentations on Friday were great! Teri did not have time to get through [...]
