Prairieland’s Region

Your Prairielands Library System

Prairielands Library Exchange is the state funded library support organization for the 18 counties of southwestern Minnesota. As part of the state’s Multicounty Multitype Library System, PLE has been serving libraries of all types since 1979. Originally named Southwest Area Multicounty Multitype Interlibrary Exchange (SAMMIE), our name was changed to Prairielands Library Exchange (PLE) in 2018.

Prairielands works closely with the two regional public library systems, Plum Creek Library System and Pioneerland Library System. Two advisory groups, the Member Council and Teen Co-op, alongside the Governing Board made up of representatives of all library types in the region, provide governance, guidance and fiscal oversight to PLE.

Membership is available to all library types in the 18-county region of Minnesota Prairielands serves. There is no cost to be a member of the state’s Multicounty Multitype Library Systems. All we ask is that libraries in the PLE region sign a member agreement as required by the state of Minnesota.
