I wasn't able to attend the Thursday night session but found the Friday sessions useful and informative. The best aspect of this retreat was the opportunity to meet the staff of other small libraries and put names with faces. The session on displays was very useful and gave us not only good ideas but wonderful [...]
The PCLS Staff Retreat was a wonderful experience. Terri's presentation on customer service was a terrific reminder of how libraries are more related to merchants than they are to museums. It was also nice to network with other librarians in the region and the books display presentation was eye-opening and inspiring. I think my favorite [...]
Customer Service We began by writing down words that signified bad customer service. The main response was rudeness, which covered inattentiveness, among other things. When a patron walks in, stop what you are doing to acknowledge him/her with eye contact, a word, or a smile. Give them your full attention when they ask for help. [...]
The staff retreat was joyful and invigorating! I only attended one day, Friday, but wish I had been able to attend the previous night. Several things added up to a great experience... The location: Shalom Hills Farm was beautiful. It was a great place for a conference AND to soak up the scenery. Both presentations [...]
April 15th, I attended the workshops organized by the Plum Creek Library System at the Shalom Hill Retreat Center. The morning workshop was about giving good customer service to the library patrons. The phrase that covered it best was to treat them like you would want to be treated - the Golden Rule. First, we [...]
The staff retreat was an amazing experience. They had three presentations. The Crime Spree which was given by Meredith Stanton Vaselaar. Teri Smith gave the Customer service presentation; it covered good and bad customer service. The last presentation was on Book display and Marketing tips. Two people, Angela McDougall and Emilirose Rasmusson, gave this presentation. [...]
On Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15, 2016, Plum Creek Library staff met at Shalom Hill Farm for a staff retreat. I attended the Friday sessions and had a wonderful experience. I got to put faces with the PCLS libraries and staff that I had not met before. I feel that I learned, and/or [...]
Spotlight on Books is a small conference that gives great benefits. The format provides opportunity for national authors and illustrators to give presentations, Minnesota authors to highlight their work and librarians to share information about their own libraries and resources. There are books to review and purchase and there is time to meet librarians and [...]
I attended Spotlight on Books on April 8th & 9th, 2016, in Walker, MN. Spotlight on Books is northern Minnesota's best kept secret! I highly recommend that everyone attend this wonderful author event. You will be able to hear and interact with many, many authors that will educate and inspire you. The main authors we [...]
I recently attended the conference Spotlight on Books 2016 in Walker, MN. This was my first time attending this conference. It was a great opportunity to meet several authors and illustrators, including Carrie Ehlert Newman, Eric Rohmann, Candace Fleming, Anton Treuer, Consie Powell, Peter Schultz, Aime'e Bissonette, Linda LaGarde Grover, Rebecca Hahn, and Cheryl Minnema.
