MLA-Rochester 2024

This year’s MLA did not disappoint. I enjoyed every single minute of it.
Highlights:
(Why) Do People Come to the Library?: Reassessing the Data We Rely on to Speak for the Library and its Users-Verena Getahun, Rachel Howell, Maddie Rudawski, and Eric Yang
Wow! I have always wondered if there was a way to include more information in the data that we collect, and it seems I am not the only one. Much discussion on the topic, not sure we have the answers, but we certainly have many questions. This was a great discussion and was a step in the right direction.

Creating a Building Maintenance Plan for Your Library-Brigette Rol and Jack Rol
With one year under our belts in the new facility, this is something I have been pondering. I have collected names, phone numbers,
and more from the various contractors and such, but how can I use this and what do I do with it all? I found the answers to my
questions, plus the presenter was gracious enough to share a template to use too. Much love to this session!

Children’s Author Panel-Molly Beth Griffin, John Coy, and Ty Chapman
I have to mention this session. I left this session feeling so much love and support. The 3 authors really go out of their way to help one another as well as help anyone that they can. It is no wonder they are so successful, It makes one thing, what the world would be like if we all were a bit more kind to one another. Wonderful presentation.

Hooded History-The KKK in 1920’s Minnesota- Nancy Vallancourt
I went to this one to satisfy my curiosity. WOW! This was so interesting. I have been telling everyone that gives me 5 minutes of their time about it all. I am hoping that this presenter comes back in a couple years to give us a 2.0 as one can only imagine now that she is retired what else she will find? Riveting!

Thank you Prairielands for this wonderful opportunity.
Best,
