I am very glad that I was able to attend this conference with Prairielands support. Now I am able to bring back lots of great information to my libraries that I was not previously aware of. I knew that the ELibrary of Minnesota existed, but it is never a resource that I had used professionally or shared with patrons. The day was divided out into multiple sessions on specific topics. The one I attended that I found to be the most useful and got the most out of was the session on using Learning Express Job & Career Accelerator, a service that I had never heard of before. The session consisted of an introduction into what is available through Learning Express and how to access the various services. Additionally, we were shown actual demonstrations of using some of the features. To this point in my time working at the Benson and Kerkhoven libraries I have not done much in the way of supporting job seekers or professional development. After this session I feel like I have a lot more to offer local patrons. One thing that stood out to me right away being instructed on how to use the service to offer resume and cover letter assistance. This is something that will definitely be useful to patrons. Another aspect that will be incredibly valuable to share with patrons will be the professional skill building courses and assessments. These are all free of charge and provide documentation of completion that can verify skills in the workplace and job market. Lastly, I was impressed by how much was available in terms of test prep and study guides for all range of tests and subject matter. Attending this training has left me feeling like I have a whole lot more to offer patrons in the realm of career services and professional development.
