This year, the Music Library Association gathered online to discuss all things music, music history, and of course, music libraries and librarianship. I learned a lot from this year’s conference, especially now looking at the Music Library Association through a public librarian’s lens rather than a music librarian’s. There were several presentations that stood out to me as practical: a poster presentation on a social media toolkit that focuses on building a social media presence for your library and using AI to assist that process (https://mlasocialmediatoolkit.hcommons.org/); a presentation of building (or re-building) a circulating vinyl record collection due to vinyl’s resurgence in popularity, which included presentations from at least two public libraries; and how to host a “music in the stacks” performance using sheet music in your library’s collection. There were also several presentations on AI and its impact on cataloging, copyright, and archiving. Most of the presentations from this year’s conference will be available public on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/musiclibraryassoc) soon for anyone to watch.
