I was delighted to be able to attend the "What's New in Young Adult Books" workshop in Sioux Falls, SD, as last year I was "blizzard-ed out" on the day of the workshop. The presenter was a 20 year veteran Teacher/Librarian, having experiences throughout the Middle School and High School grade levels. There were all [...]
Thank you for the opportunity of attending the SRP Resource Fair in Saint Cloud. The knowledge and resources shared have given me ideas to start planning for our SRP in Slayton as well as sharing with others in the Plum Creek network. The staff in Saint Cloud put together a nice presentation offering ideas and [...]
This year the annual MLA conference gave me a big boost to try some new ideas and programming at my libraries. Something that I cannot wait to try will be what I learned from session "Locking in Literacy: Using Breakout Boxes for Library programming". Breakout boxes are going to be a big hit in our [...]
The Minnesota Library Association Annual Conference provides the opportunities for me to connect with other public librarians around the state. More important are the sessions giving a variety of topics and presenters. I chose sessions which would provide information, resources and challenges to continue to provide the Glencoe Public Library with new or improved programs [...]
It's always good to know that your hard-earned life lessons are best practices and the things you suspected are true. Valerie Horton from Minitex reinforced the former; library services are changing as time goes by and it's important to react and adjust on the fly. I remember, many years ago, as a young librarian that [...]
The Directors’ Retreat at Lake Shetek was two days of very informative sessions, along with meeting with other Librarians to share ideas and get to know people from outside our local libraries. I learned so much from Valerie Horton’s two sessions. There is so much more to what Minitex has to offer beyond MNLink, eBooks [...]
I'm struck by the talent we have both within our region and in the state of Minnesota. Valerie Horton, Meredith Vaselaar, and Michele Leininger were engaging speakers who presented useful information. I got a nice mix of new and refresher information and I've already begun reading some of the titles Michele shared in her presentations. [...]
I am grateful for the opportunity to attend this informative 2-day event, meet new people, and enjoy a beautiful setting. All of the sessions offered good insights, and I especially appreciated Valerie Horton's talk on innovation. "Promote secure vulnerability": admit failure, get rest, ask questions, and build an environment where concerns are voiced. One of [...]
Our retreat was held at Shetek Lutheran Ministries Retreat Center. What a beautiful place! I had a wonderful time attending sessions, networking with my fellow colleagues. It's nice to get to know each other more and bounce ideas off each other. The sessions were very informative! Valerie Horton, from Minitex informed us of projects going [...]
I thought MLA this year was one of the best I have attended for a very long time. The diversity issue is very popular right now and I was glad to see the sessions on it. I attended the session "Engaging With the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests as a Librarian/Archivist". As we are very close [...]
