I had the opportunity to attend the 2025 Association for Rural & Small Libraries Conference September 17-20 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The ARSL Conference is full of applicable sessions aimed toward the smaller library setting. I left taking away many great ideas. We had the opportunity to hear Keynote Speaker Mychal Threets share his story and love of libraries.

I attended several sessions with a couple of favorites. The “Adult Engagement After Hours” speaker shared many fun ideas reminding us to meet our patrons where they are and be consistent with programming.

Another informative session was “There’s Always Something Happening at the Library.” This presenter works in a library in Illinois with a population of 3700 and staff of 9. They host 51 programs per month. Some of the programs include: Coffee Talk, Tech Club, Crafternoon Delight, Chair Yoga, Lego Club and so many more. Her advice was to give staff ownership and involve all staff in programming.

I also attended a Director’s Meet-up which was a great way to collaborate with other library directors. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend the ARSL Conference through the Prairielands scholarship program. Thank you!
