I attended the Minnesota Library Association Conference on September 19th and 20th at Mystic Lake Center. The first session I went to was The Interlocked Library and I heard all about Waseca’s Public Library and how they became such an integral part of their community. I learned some great tips to try in my community. From Amateur to Zealot was the next session I attended and I learned more great ideas for becoming a great advocate for libraries and library services. Checking out Superheroes showed me ways to use public transportation in a community that would benefit my patrons. I may try the bicycle check out in the future. After lunch and the keynote speaker, I chose to attend the MALF awards and presentations, since one of our own Friends was receiving an award. That was enjoyable. Accessibility Tools for Reading was very interesting and I learned of some new websites, apps., and tools to use for those who have some disabilities. Show Your Library Card is how I started out my Friday and it was a good session sharing how Washington County partners with businesses to give discounts if the patron shows his/her library card. Engaging Your Community was a session I was a bit disappointed in as it didn’t really share what I expected. The lunch and keynote, along with the vendors, were wonderful. When is Your Next Appointment gave me a new way of looking at due dates and I plan to ponder that idea a bit more. Overall, I enjoyed the sessions and speakers, as well as the networking with colleagues.
