Entering my third semester at Mankato State University, I elected to take the course, KSP 622: Materials for Children. This course focused on selecting and evaluating both print and multimodal media materials that are appropriate for children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. I became knowledgeable about current issues such as censorship, social justice, and racial consciousness while also studying different genres I was not familiar with, such as graphic novels and prose. This rigorous course provided me with the tools for becoming a better curator and promoter of library materials, which will help me better serve my peers and students. Funds generously provided by Prairelands Library Exchange helped to cover part of the costs of tuition. Prarielands has my deepest thanks!
