Thank you for the opportunity to attend the 2018 MLA conference in St. Cloud. This was my first time attending and I really enjoyed the experience. I was very impressed by the wide variety of session topics offered to attendees. All of the sessions were interesting, but those I enjoyed the most included; “Expanding world language collections”, “American Indian literature” and “Front desk technology help”.
Expanding world language collections had some wonderful ideas and resources for working to include materials in the minority languages growing in our communities. It was interesting to compare and contrast the ethnic communities different libraries around the state serve and what their language collections look like. American Indian literature was equally interesting and full of resources regarding outreach to our Native communities as well as insights about Native focused materials for educators. Of the three, I feel front desk technology help was the most useful in the immediate present. The presenter is an information technology specialist who clearly has lots of experience helping patrons with the same kind of every day questions we field in Marshall. In the months since I have certainly put his advice to use in helping patrons with basic technology questions.
Thank you again for the opportunity to attend MLA, I hope to be able to attend again in the future.
