I registered for the 2023 Minnesota Library Association Conference “Library Workers Make the Library Work!” Due to unexpected circumstances, I was only able to attend the first day of the conference. However, thanks to digital resources, I will be able to access information from the Thursday sessions, too! The first day of the conference was packed with valuable information. I began the day with a presentation/discussion on book banning, which highlighted the importance of being aware and more importantly prepared. I plan to take the information I learned from this session to specifically share with my local library board. I also plan to share this information with library staff so they can feel more comfortable/confident working at the Circulation Desk. The other sessions I attended on Wednesday included a partnership book awards program and a partnership with a local children’s museum. Both sessions emphasized the importance of community collaboration and reaching out to other organizations to bring in a wealth of programming opportunities. While we do a lot of collaboration in our library, I now have a new contact option with a museum in the St. Cloud area as well as a desire to form a partnership with our local community college. Along the information sessions, the conference provided time to catch up with colleagues and a chance to meet with authors and vendors. Thank you to the Prairielands scholarship for this continuing education opportunity. There is always something to learn at MLA!
