I was able to attend the Fall SRP 2019 Resource Fair on Friday, Nov. 2 in St. Cloud at the Great River Regional Library. The Resource Fair is where I learn new ideas that go with the 2019 Summer theme: Showtime at Your Library. The St. Cloud librarians do a fantastic job with setting up tables of different examples you can do at your library.
The 1st session was on Early Childhood ideas. Ideas consisted of the individual themes of Circus, Pet Show, Magic Show, etc. On display were books and craft projects that you could use for the different themes talked about. One thing I liked is that they have themed totes that go with different themed story times.
The 2nd presentation was on school-age/pre-teen ideas. Some ideas were to make your own cat walk for your dolls or stuffed animals. Also, to make your own sock puppets and puppet theatre. One thing that I was excited about is that some libraries are now doing interactive movie nights, where you give each participant props that they can use during the movie at a certain point in the movie. Chris also talked about Book to Movie book clubs. Live Clue game and life size Candyland would be a few more ideas that were given.
The 3rd presentation was on Teens/adult programming for the summer. The teen librarians focused a lot on games, such as Wheel of Fortune, Minute to Win It, Hollywood Squares, etc. They talked about how to implement them into your summer programming.
When all presentations were done, there was time for questions, comments and time for other librarians in attendance to share some of their ideas too!
I want to give special thanks to Prairielands for giving me this opportunity once again, it is always a fun day of networking with others in the same field as I am
