The Enhancing Quality Staff Symposium was my first library “workshop” event. I learned of new programs that we can modify to fit the needs of our community, such as having a coffee hour with our patrons so they get to know staff and staff gets to know them. There was also book and button making which I believe would be excellent programs for both adults and teens to try in our library. Another session I really enjoyed was the History Detective. It gave a lot of ideas on how to research ones family history and gave some resources to use when doing so. A few of our patrons come in and ask for this type of information and the session gave me some ideas on links and resources on how to better assist them. I really learned a lot from this years symposium and can not wait to go back next year and gather some more ideas on how to better serve our community.
