I had the opportunity to serve as a counselor at Camp Read this year. As an attendee in past years, I learned about new authors and titles, but as a counselor, I learned even more. It was very interesting to facilitate the discussions and hear the different perspectives on four specific books. The books I was assigned weren’t my favorites, but the experience was wonderful. One suggestion I have for the next teen session is to add a Manga or Graphic Novel section. It would be great if the speaker could talk to the audience about the different Mangas available. This is becoming a popular genre for teens but it is growing faster than most librarians have time to keep up with. And, there are so many different types, subject areas, and content appropriateness out there that it might be helpful for librarians and teachers to understand it better.
