Camp Read A Lot is a literacy conference that is a collaboration between Minnesota arts and cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF, the Pioneer land Library System, the Plum Creek Library System and Prairielands library Exchange). Anyone interested promoting literacy and learning about new books for children and young adults can attend. It is designed for more for librarians and teachers. People attending earned 25-50 credits depending on if they were there one day or two days. The conference was a great experience. We heard two Minnesota authors, David LaRochelle and John Coy, speak about writing and how to get kids excited about reading. We also heard musician and entertainer Ralph Covert talk about how to use games and fun activities to get kids to learn without them realizing it. In order to earn credits we had to read one reading list per day each worth 25 credits. We then had discussion session to discuss the books on the reading lists. We discussed how the books can be used in classrooms, libraries both public and school. Camp Read A Lot will be back next year and I for sure will attend again.
