As a continuation of my path to obtaining licensure in School and Library Information Sciences, I took a semester-long course focusing on selecting and evaluating both print and multimodal media materials that are appropriate for students in grades 7-12. I became more knowledgeable about issues facing secondary school librarians: book challenges, selecting the right ebook platform, curating a diverse collection, investigating COPPA regulations, and more genre studies. Furthermore, this course spent some time focusing on effective distance teaching and learning strategies, which has proved extremely beneficial during COVID, even in my elementary setting. Overall, this thought-provoking course provided me with the the skills and knowledge set to serve secondary library patrons. Funds generously provided by Prairelands Library Exchange helped to cover part of the costs of tuition. A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Prarielands!
